Senior Exhibition: Through Our Mind

This work delves into the concept of integrating multiple narratives and campaign elements to create a cohesive transmedia experience. A focal point of the project is the exploration of the "trans" concept through individual research conducted by students. Dyslexia, a widely prevalent disorder that affects approximately 40 million American adults, is a key subject of interest. However, it is crucial to note that only about 2 million individuals are actually aware of this condition. Dyslexia primarily affects reading and decoding, but it also influences one's perception and understanding of sound. It is important to dispel the misconception that dyslexia is tied to intelligence as individuals with dyslexia are often misunderstood and misjudged. Unfortunately, many people remain unaware of this underlying problem, which often goes unnoticed and unresolved for prolonged periods.

The project titled "Through Our Mind" aims to not only educate the audience about this complex disorder, but also provide them with a glimpse into what it feels like to have dyslexia. By utilizing different mediums such as Time/Motion, Poster, and Zine, the project seeks to offer diverse experiences that simulate the challenges faced by individuals with dyslexia. The objective is to purely raise awareness.

To create a simulated dyslexic experience for non-dyslexic viewers, I developed red lenses that counteract the effects of yellow and magenta colors. With the lenses, the top portion of the project eradicates the swirling dyslexic patterns, making the text legible but still affected by other dyslexic symptoms like letter and word inversions. The bottom portion of the project, however, becomes fully legible, enabling viewers to read the complete explanation.
